Prabal Gurung

From time to time, fashion needs a kick, in order to restart brighter and fresher. No wonder that the creative twist comes from “outside” – from another culture, with another vision, with much more enthusiasm. This is the case of talented Prabal Gurung.

Prabal Gurung, a Nepalese American fashion designer, trained in New Delhi and then at Parsons, has a long experience of collaborations with great designers, such as Manish Arora, Donna Karan and Bill Blass. He shows his collections at NY Fashion since 2009. His new collection Spring/Summer 2012 comes along with a quite impressive look, sophisticated silhouettes, graphic and color, plastified details. Plus, the belts and harnesses by  Zana Bayne.

I appreciate the colors, the way he worked out the surfaces, the cut out details of the dresses, the mix of printed silk with plastic. Definitely, Prabal Gurung has a particular way to dress a woman.

Hair Style Matters

We know that dress matters, but the hairstyling is essential! A fact that’ s always re-confirmed during the big fashion weeks. Here are  some of my favorites hairstyles by Guido Palau. Guido is not only a hair-dresser, he’s a trendsetter and he’s a real artist.

Y-3

As I’m a big fan of Yohji Yamamoto’s designs, his line with Adidas is one of the most awaited at the NY Fashion Week. This time he designed the pieces thinking of the next Olympic games in London, but except of the checkered/tartan fabrics, this looks like a regular Y-3 Collection – black with a few color details, beautifully draped, and just ready-to-wear. Here are some of my favorite outfits :

The Misbehaviors

Almost 100 years ago, Madmoiselle Coco epitomized the flapper style and the ideal free spirit. She contributed to the fashion in numerous ways- introducing the black dress, worn with pearls a la faux, the slender silhouette, etc. , operating a kind of revolutionary body release. That was the core of her work. On the other side – her visual fashion formula perpetuates in our days, and sells a lot.  What about the misbehaviors? A fashion formula can be revisited or updated in many spectacular ways. The same black, the same body democracy, the same string of pearls – fashion is always about the cultural heritage, but also about breaking the rules and giving it a twist!

Wear Me Out

Erwin Wurm is an Austrian sculptor, inspired by popular culture, well known for using everyday objects (furniture, houses, cars, clothes, plastic bottles) for his particular exploration of space, potential form and volume. In his particular quest the human body has a prominent role and is considered as the perfect canvas of experimentation. His art is smart, humorous, interactive.

This summer, Erwin Wurm presented his “Wear me out” project  (29 May to 25 September 2011), an exhibition held in open air at Middelheim Museum of Antwerp. He also invited fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck to collaborate for the occasion.

Gold

I’ve never doubt Stella McCartney’s talent, but some of her looks are still surprising me. As does this wonderful, bold, perfect dress from her Fall 2011 Collection.

History Is Nothing But Muscles In Action

Alex Mirutziu / Razvan Sadean

12.9 – 24.9 / 2011 – “History Is Nothing But Muscles In Action

This project marks a new collaboration between Alex Mirutziu and Razvan Sadean, both working within specific performative frames, debating powerful and controversial narratives with personal instrumentation. Their most recent work will be presented within Portugal’s legendary art center, Ze Dos Bois (ZDB). Connecting with their avant-garde contemporaries like John Romão, Rafael Alvares and Daniel Schmitt, their new performance refers to the study of human action as research taken into the palladium of muscles economy.
