Denim Reloaded

Denim is cool, denim is classic, denim is democratic. It is also a permissive canvas for a wide range of creative interventions. While a good pair of jeans will always be a good pair of jeans, the famous serge de Nîmes continues to be reinvented, sometimes evolving in surprising ways. Every respected designer, from Martin Margiela to Karl Lagerfeld, from Hedi Slimane to Christophe Lemaire and Isabel Marant , had dealt at one point with denim. Moreover, we noticed lately an interesting revival in denim redesign. Whether we refer to the work of established designers like Raf Simons and Phillip Lim or newer talents like Faustine Steinmetz or Xiao Li, denim variations remain a prominent trend of the moment.

Everybody Get Sporty!

Define Sporty! Well, it depinds: oversized cartoonish sneakers at Raf Simons, sporty pointed-toe pumps at Dior, granny chic sneakers at Chanel, surprising styles on the street.

The Perfect Shoes – Dior Fall 2014

Dior-shoes-fall-2014

Sporty, robotic, elegant – Raf Simons’ design for Dior Fall 2014 collection is surely a highlight of the season. I’ve always said that a good designer is one who knows how to define a fashion silhouette, to finish it from head to toe. In this regard (and in many others), Raf Simons proves to be the best.

Jil Sander x Raf Simons (end of story)

Jil Sander Fall 2012. That’s a special collection, Raf Simons’ last collection for Jil Sander. A fact that maximized the visual impact and the emotional charge of the fashion show. Everybody agreed on the quality of the offer, no need to put out the remarkable finishes in every Jil Sander piece of cloth.  Everything is in the details!

Honestly, these silhouettes bring nothing new, but the color palette is delicious and the tailored details are incredible. The mini corsets, the high waisted pants, all these double face coats are good investments for a timeless wardrobe.

Men – Behind The Scenes

The catwalk show may be the main attraction for every fashion addict. But nothing compares to the backstage images of the show, especially when they ‘re shot by  Sonny Vandevelde – “the fashion photographer trying to give you a glimpse behind the scene”. I mean, you can really get a glimpse of it, but also a fresh perspective on the next season’s fashionable looks. It’s not only about the outfits, it’s about posture, expression, spontaneity. The clothes look more ‘real’ and ‘alive’, because they’re worn by people after all… no stereotypes, no restrictions, just a few guys doing their work and having fun.

It seems that Rick Owens’ monk sobriety gets a sporty twist for the next season men. Which is very nice.

Henrik Vibskov’s oversized outfits are mixing a lot of textiles techniques with some statement head- pieces. Once again, he doesn’t seem to care about anything, breaking the rules and following his own way;

Raf Simons – sober look, bright cuts and a Tilda-like hairdo;

I love this crafted- tribal look at Damir Doma…

and the man-machine from Mugler

and Dries Van Noten – oh yes, he knows how to use color like no one other!

Dior Homme.  Of course, nothing compares with their last Summer collection, but I admit that the sporty couture in black & white looks pretty cool.

Jean Paul Gaultier comes along with his bohemian style, fake tattoos and spirited boys. The brick-outfit is genius!

This one is my favorite, I have to say it! I always loved red & black in bold stripes (and this time, it’s not Yohji Yamamato, but Riccardo Tisci). The Givenchy Collection for the next Fall is really fresh and powerful. Take a look at those nose – accessories, they’re perfect!

Great rush behind the Galliano show… plus a delicious mix of matt and shiny black.
